Jeremy Chan, LLB, is a business lawyer with the national law firm Miller Thomson LLP in Vancouver. He provides advice in a wide variety of business transactions including corporate reorganizations, amalgamations, financings, joint venture agreements, shareholder agreements and buying and selling businesses. Jeremy works with a variety of clients ranging from small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to large companies from different industry sectors including: financial services, natural resources, environmental consulting, waste management, manufacturing, health care, and transportation. He enjoys working in a team based atmosphere and provides practical business-oriented solutions by emphasizing a problem-solving approach. Jeremy has previously worked in Hong Kong and studied in Japan. Besides English, he speaks Cantonese and is learning Mandarin. He is a business graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University and holds a law degree from the University of Windsor. Jeremy was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2001.
Douglas J. Purdie, BCom, CA, is an experienced Senior Manager in the Audit and Assurance Group (AAG) of PricewaterhouseCoopers ("PwC") where he practices as a member of the Private Company Services team. He provides a full range of audit, accounting and tax services while integrating practical business advice and acting as a sounding board to the management and owners of private companies. Doug has extensive experience with growing businesses engaged in the real estate industry. His clients are involved in the ownership, development, and management of shopping centres, hotels, office buildings, and residential apartments and condominiums in Canada and the United States. In addition to providing services to the real estate industry, Doug also has broad experience with, and specializes in, advising and consulting entrepreneurial and growing public and private enterprises doing business in Hong Kong and The People's Republic of China. Doug regularly communicates and visits with other PwC assurance and tax professionals in those countries to provide seamless multi-disciplined service to support his clients' needs. He has traveled extensively in China and annually visits Hong Kong. He has been involved in private and public financings, acquisition due diligence reviews, and corporate restructurings. Raised in Vancouver, Doug earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and is also a Chartered Accountant. He has spent his career with PwC joining the firm in 1990. When not providing services to his clients, Doug is a career coach to five professional staff members and has lead the Vancouver AAG professional staff annual feedback and evaluation programme for the past seven years. He is currently an associate member representative of the Urban Development Institute (Pacific Region) and of the Hong Kong Canada Business Association (Vancouver Chapter).
Edmond Wong, Ph.D., was born in Vancouver, B.C. He obtained his B.Sc. in biochemistry from McGill University, and received his doctorate in the field of molecular genetics from U.B.C. Dr. Wong is a scientist and director of a biotechnology company specializing in DNA testing and biomedical research with a special interest in cancer gene therapy.
Audrey Wang, B.A., is the Communication Coordinator for a company called Ortho Active that specializes in orthotics and other sports medicine products. In 2002, she graduated from Simon Fraser University with a B.A. in Communications and Sociology. Audrey is an active member in various community organizations. She has been a Girl Guide Leader in Coquitlam for six years and currently sits on Area Council as the Newsletter Editor. She also volunteers in various events and fundraisers for Sunshine Dreams for Kids Foundation, a national organization that fulfills the dreams of kids with life-threatening illnesses. In the fall, she is taking six months leave to go to Korea. She will be working with CEC Network to promote Canada as a destination for international study exchanges and business trainings.
Peter Hu is pursuing his CA accounting designation with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Vancouver. Peter is currently a coop student at SFU and expected to graduate in 2005. Peter has been very involved in student organizations. He was the president of SFU Taiwanese Association in 2000 where he coordinated and led conferences, social events, and tournaments up to 1200 participants. Peter was the president of SFU Accounting Student Association in 2002 where he built network and communication amongst CA firms, SFU faculty and students. Peter was also involved in SFU Business Administration Student Society where he designed and edit monthly newsletter. Peter has been working in Japanese restaurant as a chef for 4 years. He stands behind the sushi bar and makes delicious sushi and sashimi for the customers. Peter obtained his intermediate level of high-performance education from Performance Drivers Club. He is not afraid of challenges, especially at the windy roads. Peter enjoys digital photography at his spare time. Some of the US locations Peter traveled to for work recently are Pennsylvania, NYC, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and San Francisco.
Selena Sit, LLB, was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. She completed both her undergraduate degree in cell biology and genetics and her law degree at U.B.C. She is currently working as counsel at the federal Department of Justice, representing the Canada Revenue Agency. Selena practices exclusively in the area of tax litigation.
Jenny Li, CPA, is a tax manager with Graphic Communications Group in Vancouver and a California licensed CPA. Jenny specializes in the U.S. and international tax planning and compliance. Jenny obtained her Master of Business Taxation from the University of Southern California. After living in Los Angeles for about four years, she decided that she need a change and moved to Vancouver. She now calls Vancouver home and would not consider moving to anywhere else except for a short secondment to Europe. Jenny enjoys reading, music, sports, and arts in general. She has been active in volunteer activities. Jenny is fluent bilingual in English and Mandarin.
Winnie Sung, B.Sc. and LL.B., is a lawyer with Boughton Law Corporation. She has a general corporate / commercial law practice. She has been involved in a wide range of business transactions and is also experienced in advising on employment related matters. Prior to joining Boughton, she also practiced as a litigator and has solid litigation experience. Winnie is focusing on developing her solicitor practice with local and Asia Pacific clients and assisting them in both domestic and international transactions. She is the secretary of the Employment Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association British Columbia. Winnie has been a speaker at an employment law seminar and has co-authored articles on employment law issues. She earned both her B.Sc. and LL.B. degrees at the University of British Columbia. Winnie was born in Hong Kong and is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.
Wendy Chang, MBA, is responsible for overseeing the Chinese Services Group at Deloitte & Touche LLP. She develops and executes the strategic plan for the group and is in charges of all marketing activities as well. She was born in Taiwan and move to Vancouver in 1994. She obtained her MBA from UBC in 2006 and worked in Taipei as a Consultant prior to that. She plays golf and is a big movie fan. Wendy is fluent in English, Mandarin and Taiwanese and speaks conversational Cantonese.
Grace C Kuo, CA, is a Manager of Mutual Funds at Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd. Before heading into industry, Grace was a Manager at KPMG, with their Assurance Services group where she specialized in the financial institution and real estate services sector. Grace graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2005 with a BBA and subsequently obtained her chartered accountancy designation in 2006. Community service is one of Grace's passions and she enjoys working with diverse people to make a difference in our world. Her motto: if you can dream it, you can do it - leave your legacy!
