The mandate of the committee is to conduct, promote, and coordinate advocacy-related activities in the public interest for the betterment of society. The advocacy activities will be non-partisan, reflect multi-disciplinary perspectives of Chinese-Canadian professionals, and must be consistent with the vision and values of ACCP. The goals of advocacy are to influence public policy, attitudes, and beliefs on specific issues, and may be effected by presenting a position or recommendations to the government and by promoting public awareness of the issue. Position papers and/or position statements developed by the committee will adhere to an agreed process that includes endorsement by the ACCP Board prior to distribution to the public.
Responsibilities:
- Identify issues of importance to Chinese Canadian community and the Canadian society.
- To gather information and data on specific issues, and to provide an objective analysis based on this information.
- To develop and adopt a position with recommendations on specific issues which represent ACCP.
- To communicate the position to elected officials and the public, with information and data that are accurate, credible, and balanced.
- To conduct and coordinate activities for public advocacy, and collaborate with other community or professionals groups on specific advocacy-related projects.
- To support advocacy-related activities of other groups that are consistent with the position and values of the ACCP.
- To promote a high level of public discussion and informed debate on issues.
